Studies encompass four periods: the Ancient (Classical) World, Middle Ages, the Modern Era, and Post-Modernism.
In the first year, the curriculum consists of beginner-level classes (frontal lectures), advanced classes, and a workshop for research skills.
In the second year, the curriculum consists of advanced classes and foreign language studies.
In the third year, a historiographical lesson is taught, as well as seminars in which the students will choose to specialize according to a periodic, regional, or thematic principle.
Terms of Admission
Admission to the studies is conditional to meeting the general Admission Terms of the University, as well as the Admission Terms at the level required by the Department of History itself.

The student's program is composed of:
First Year
4 beginner-level lecture courses, one in each historical period (each is 2 weekly-hours per semester, 2 Credit points)
2 advanced-level lecture courses (each is 4 weekly-hours per semester, 4 Credit points)
Introduction to World History Course (4 weekly-hours, 4 Credit points)
Computer Literacy course (2 weekly-hours per semester, 2 Credit points), as well as a workshop in Research Writing skills (2 weekly-hours per semester, 2 Credit points)
Total first-year = 24 credits
Second Year
4 Advanced Lessons (4 WH, 4 credits each)
Foreign language - all students of the Department must study Latin or any other language (different from their mother tongue) at the beginner level in the second year of their studies (during the Fall & Spring semester, in the amount of 4 credits). Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, and Indian languages are not included. This obligation can be completed in the first year.
Total second-year = 20 credits
Third Year
2 seminars in two periods to be chosen according to the student's interests (each is 4 WH, 6 credits)
Elective course from "Derech Haruach" (6 WH, 6 credits)
Total second-year = 16 credits

Purpose of Studies
The purpose of the Single-Major Track is to expand the student's historical education, as well as to deepen his knowledge of specific topics of his/her choice, the studies are structured according to a three-year track that begins with introductions divided over historical periods and ends with the submission of seminars.
A student who is interested in a Single-Major Track must contact the head of the department.
The structure of Studies
To the quota of courses of the two-course track are added: an advanced lesson, a seminar in the field of specialization he has chosen, as well as another foreign language at the beginner and advanced level. In addition, the student will study in a unidirectional track an extended collection or 2 historical collections. The student will have to accumulate at least 76 credits in the class, the rest of the credits will be accumulated in the study files he has chosen.
The student must begin the study of the clusters in the first year.
For students in the single-discipline track who began their studies before the year 2007:
First Year
4 lessons for beginners, one in each period (2 credits, 2 WH each)
2 advanced lessons (4 credits, 4 WH each)
An introductory course in World History (4 credits, 4 WH)
Online "Computer Literacy" Course (2 credits, 2 WH) and a workshop for Research Skills (2 credits 2 WH)
Total first-year = 24 credits
Second Year
5 advanced lessons (4 credits, 4 WH each)
Foreign language *
Students in the Single-Major Track will learn 2 foreign languages during their studies.
Foreign language at the Beginner Level A + B (4 credits 4 WH)
And another foreign language at the Beginner Level A + B, and at the Advanced Level A + B (8 credits 8 WH)
* It is advisable to start studying the foreign language as early as the first year of studies since students are obliged to study two languages.
* Please note that Arabic, Chinese, Japanese and Indian are not included.
* This obligation can be completed in the first year.

Third Year
3 seminars in two periods to be chosen according to the student's interests (4 credits 6 credits each)
Historiographical lesson (2 credit hours 2 credits)

Total credits in the department for the Single-Major Track students = 76 credits
In addition, Single-Major Track students must study an extended course-bundle or 2 limited historical-course-bundle of their choice, from the list of bundles available at the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies. Alternatively, students may compose, by themselves, a course-bundle in one of the historical departments. This course-bundle is subject to the approval of the Departmental B.A. committee. The extended collection or the 2 limited collections should amount to the sum of 44 credits.

Information for students in the department who intend to go into teaching
Students who are preparing themselves for teaching history must take certain supplementary courses. The scope and content of such courses depend on their second major. Kindly refer to the detailed guidelines of the curricula of the Department of Teaching in the section on supplementary courses for students studying toward a diploma in history teaching.
The department offers outstanding students the option to complete their master's degree within four years (8 semesters).
The track allows for the receipt of a "bachelor's" degree upon completion of the quota of undergraduate studies while studying for a master's degree.
As a rule, students studying in the track are committed to the entire study quota of a bachelor's degree (60 points) in the department and of a master's degree (32 credits).
In the first year, students will study according to the regular BA program; in the second year they will study according to the BA program as well as one seminar from the third year program; in the third year, they will study according to the BA program (a BA seminar and a historiographical lesson) as well as the first part of the MA program which consists of: a specialization seminar, a methodological seminar, KM? and elective classes.
In the fourth year, the students will study 2 specialization seminars, a methodological seminar, guided reading, and the rest of the elective courses up to the scope of 32 credits. In addition, at the beginning of the fourth year, students in this track will submit their research proposal to the Departmental MA committee.
Admission
Students who have completed their first year of BA studies with an average of at least 85 will be accepted into the program. An interview will be held by the Departmental MA Committee, during the summer between the second and third years of study. The status of a full-fledged MA student will only be achieved by completing all the BA degree requirements.
