Beenstock and Shalev to the Levant, the early-modern name for the Middle East. How did Western European women and men write about travel to the area? And how did people in the Levant write about Europeans? In a joint English and History seminar, we will travel to the twilight zone between literature and history, examining letters, travelogues, and fairy tales, and exploring the reading of literature as history, and of history as fiction.
